After obtaining a chemist degree (BA, 1974) at UNC-Chapel Hill, I completed this career in 2000 (hard times at Bardon Rubber Company). Next came a restart to find a new career; I re-entered school at UWM (Milwaukee, WI) in 2004 to pursue an educational background. My MS (2007) and PHD degrees from UWM are in Urban Education and Administrative Leadership. Along the way, I studied with an emphasis on older adult learning (Gerontology Certificate, 2007) and did my doctoral work on computer technologies for older adults (PHD, 2011). How do we older adults learn? What kinds of things do we enjoy learning about? How do we put it to good use in our lives?
My early career as a chemist helped to form my scientific way of viewing the world. Since obtaining my PHD, I have combined philosophy of education and non-profit business strategy while I worked with North Shore School for Seniors (2014-2017) to improve their visibility and programming; currently, I enjoy being the Director for the Elm Grove School for Lifelong Learning, an outreach for the Community United Methodist Church. You'll see more about these unique schools for lifelong learning in this website.
I'm usually working on the computer with my two trusty Dachshunds close at hand, trying to figure out what's next at the schools. I am an avid movie watcher and occasional bingo addict at the nearby Oneida Bingo Casino in Wisconsin.
Director, 2014-2017. Located in the beautiful and scenic Whitefish Bay, WI community. This unique school within the United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay has served the Whitefish Bay, Milwaukee, and other nearby communities since 2000. In session during Fall, Winter, and Spring each year.
Director, 2018. Working toward successful outreach into the communities surrounding Elm Grove, WI ... into the lives of our older adults. The school begins during the Summer and continues through Fall each year.
The two schools featured in my educational background here both arise from the Communities of the United Methodist Church. North Shore School for Seniors (NSSS) is the outreach of the United Methodist Church of Whitefish Bay (UMCWFB). They strive to improve mind and spirit of participants through learning and fellowship. The Elm Grove School for Lifelong Learning (EGS4LL) is an outreach of the local Community United Methodist Church (CUMC). Elm Grove School seeks to enrich the lives of its older adult participants. Both feature open doors of their sponsoring churches.
Be sure to check out the schools featured in this website. Their programs vary throughout the year. It's a great way to spend time and make friends while you learn and have fun with others.
